The cost of generator fuel is stealing education from children in remote island communities.  For example, Togo village school (Qamea Island) has 102 students.  It's annual budget is AUD9,000 (excluding teacher’s wages) to maintain school buildings and teachers' quarters, buy text books, stock the library, buy sports equipment and all other teaching resources. More than $2000 of that budget is spent on generator fuel. With the support of generous contributors we will install a solar power system so the money can be spent on the kids education.  That boosts their education budget by nearly 25% and saves up to 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Education cherished

This photo is of a temporary dwelling in the grounds of Rabi High School.

Would you give up your home for the school term to live in a temporary shelter, without power or plumbing, so your child could attend high school?

Education is so important to Pacific Island communities, that isn't seen as a hardship but rather a wonderful opportunity.
